Nathaniel Wiley Harbin Civil War letter

Scope and Content

This collection consists of a letter written by Nathaniel Wiley Harbin to his father about the First Battle of Manassas (Bull RUn). Harbin gives an account of the battle, where he acted as a "skirmisher," and describes the rout of the Federal army and the supplies they abandoned during their retreat. Harbin includes a casualty list for his company and writes about the capture of Federal prisoners.

Noel D'Alvigny medical papers

This collection contains copies of papers relating to Noel D'Alvigny's service as a physician. Included is a form of regulations covering medical fees adopted by Atlanta medical doctors; his diploma; a contract between the United States Army and D'Alvigny as a private physician; an 1865 special order assigning him to duty in charge of a hospital for refugees and freedmen in Atlanta; and a letter extolling his professional and military service to the Confederacy.

Perry family correspondence

This collection contains correspondence between the Perry family and extended family members including the Carters and the Chisolms. Transcription is available for the letters dated between 1852 and 1869. Scope and Content This collection contains a promissory note to pay John Boutwell the sum of $80.00 for the service of a "negro slave named Reubin" in 1852. The transaction was executed by Harold & Murray on 177 Broad Street. The state in which the transaction occurred has not been determined. Reuben and Sarah Schumpert diary

This collection contains a diary started by Reuben Schumpert on July 30, 1861. In it he records his experience joining the 11th Battalion, Sumpter Light Artillery. Sarah Schumpert, his stepmother, began writing in the diary on July 3, 1864. In her entries she reflects upon domestic life during the Civil War, including details of the loss of her stepson and of her husband's military service. Of particular note are two medicinal recipes.
